Harraseeket’s Leslie Speidel and Katie Moore lead a program for students enrolled in a College Partnership Program (CPP). CPP helps students who face barriers to achieving their higher education goals, including students who are the first in their family to attend college in the U.S.,  English language learners, students who are economically disadvantaged, and students with disabilities.

Our Career Pathways Programs support young people in in a variety of ways

Career Mentoring in high school

Mentors supporting students seeking at-work experiences with:

  • resume writing

  • networking skills

  • help identifying career goals

  • pursuing steps for finding and landing work experiences

  • finding references

  • preparing for at-work experiences

Imagining Your Future

A new program!

  • 1-on-1 mentoring throughout the school year for selected students

  • Career exploration and personal reflection

  • A focused curriculum

  • Workshops, and career panels in school

  • Field trips, shadowing, internships

  • Fun group activities

Guide teams

Ongoing intergenerational conversations with guided content

  • Each “guide team” contains three members:

    • a high school or college student

    • a young adult

    • an older adult

  • Each team commits to regular meetings on a schedule of its choosing

  • They discuss thought-provoking books, articles, videos and exercises described in “modules” on a website created for the purpose

  • Each team chooses what to discuss

Students meeting in small groups to learn about networking and resume writing

Internships for underserved students

Helping students open their eyes and gain confidence

  • Stipends to remove economic barriers to taking unpaid internships

  • Mentoring and guidance to identify and pursue opportunities

  • Directories of employers willing to host students

We design programs to fit community needs

An example: Our first program in McLean, where we have offered:

  • 1-on-1 conversations for young people, using an online directory of mentors that young people can access

  • Community forums

  • Online reading, audio and video resources for career exploration

  • Workshops, and career panels in school

  • Field trips, shadowing, internships
